Day 259 of 365 Days of Silver ~~ Grateful to Be Thrown in a State of Awe

So we awoke today to find out there was a 90% chance of thunderstorms and up to an inch of rain.

*pout*

The R—my husband R, who would rather stay in his basement night after night—said, “Hey, why don’t we go ahead and go to Kennedy Space Center. Most of it is inside, so what if it rains?”

I was dressed in about negative three minutes!

And we had an absolutely amazing and awe-inspiring day.

One of the first presentations we went to was for the Apollo program. We were so surprised by the “show!” It turns out the mock stage setting of Mission Control wasn’t stage setting! It was the real Mission Control that was used during the Apollo missions! And then…!

We walk into this gigantic room with a real Saturn rocket hanging from the room. Our minds warped. My brain couldn’t wrap around the immensity of it. And there was a moon buggy and a moon lander and a space capsule and a slice of moon rocket that we were allowed to touch and space suits and…wow….

Then we went to a presentation of the Atlantis shuttle—and wonderful movie multi-media show—and then…and then….

This image of the shuttle began to form on the screen…but it wasn’t an image!

It was a real shuttle. It was the Atlantis.

It was right there!

The screen raises and there it was right before us…and I cried. I actually cried.

It seemed alive. It was poetry. It breathed. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing!

And the rest of the day went like that. From the bus trip around the Center to seeing a eight foot across eagles nest to seeing a seven or eight foot long alligator to seeing the next step in the space program—which is landing man on Mars by 2030!

And I was deeply moved by the memorial to the astronaughts that were killed in the shuttle disasters.

I still can scarcely believe the amazing things I saw today.

Awe.

Pure awe.

And some times it is wonderful to be fully in a state of awe.

The best high there is….
