Day 188 of 365 Days of Silver ~~ Grateful for Breakfast With a Friend

Your friends should motivate and inspire you. Your circle should be well rounded and supportive. Keep it tight. Quality over quantity, always.

Her name is Angelia Sparrow and she was a long-term Live Journal friend and the first I met in person. R and I joined her and her family for some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. Soon after that I discovered she was a published author. How I missed that I don’t know….

And it was Angelia who really, in many ways, introduced me to M/M Romance. A lot of what she wrote fell under that category for instance. And she showed me the websites where publishers Calls for Submissions were posted.

Thank you for that Angelia. And thanks for pushing me. Who knows how much longer I would have hemmed and hawed if it wasn’t for you!

Angelia is a wonderful writer—one I highly recommend.

She lives far away and so I don’t see her nearly as often as I would life. Usually it’s about twice a year, once at a great little convention we go to in November. The very one where R and I had our official—although not legally recognized—wedding on Nov 5, 2005—although that was before Angelia started coming. Sadly situations interviened over the last year, including the passing of her super amazing mother, and it had been some time since Angelia and I got to spend time together.

That happened this morning. And I had a really nice time.

It’s always nice to get together with her because of the nice double whammy of friendship and the fact that we’re both writers and can commiserate where needed, inspire where needed, and congratulate each other as well. And that we both write in the same genre, and understand so much of what that involves. Who else can I sit down with and talk motivations for two men falling in love and how much sex there should be and if there should be any magick in such and such a story, and zombies, any tentacled creatures* coming up through the ice…or whether it should be a straight romance—you should excuse the expression. It’s nice.

Tomorrow will be a better beginning of my long work week knowing I got to spend time with her today. Thank you Angelia.

And know that you are always in my prayers, and that I am eternally grateful that the Universe saw fit to bring us together!

Be on the lookout for Terror of the Frozen North by Angelia Sparrow and Naomi Brooks—an awesome sort of gay Indiana Jones/H. Rider Haggard novel from Amber Allure press. It’s the sequel to the delightful The Curse Of The Pharaoh’s Manicurists. Miss it not! (and you can find it by clicking Right Here!)

Here is the blurb for the first book: In the roaring ’20s, Charlie Doyle, the ink still wet on his Dartmouth journalism degree, answers an ad for a job as secretary to Edward Kilsby, Lord Withycombe and renowned flying ace of the Great War. The ad leads him to expect excitement, but Charlie never expects quite so much.

When Edward is hired to find missing archaeologist Sir Alexander Spencer, Charlie is about to go for the ride of his life. A whirlwind tour of London, the Paris nightlife, a kidnapping by Edward’s jilted fiancée and rival, Cairo, the Valley of the Kings, even the Orient Express all pale compared to what awaits Charlie and Edward in the tomb of Ni-ankh-khnum and Khnum-ho-tep, Overseers of the Manicurists in the Palace of the King.

But not mummies nor jilted lovers, not malaria nor Anubis himself can stop their quest…or their growing love for each other…
