Day 175 of 365 Days of Silver ~~ Grateful for Half Days at Work

“Every crowd has a silver lining.”
~~ P.T. Barnum

So when I handed in that FMLA form from my doctor—the one that stated he didn’t want me working overtime for at last a year—the place I work reacted in a way I thought they would. A crappy way.

I specifically had the doctor fill out the form so that it said, “only eighty hours in a two week period.” Since I work 34.5 hours one week and 46 hours the next. Which adds up to 80 hours in two weeks.

But they decided to make sure I didn’t get any overtime. In a way that I am sure they did on purpose, to get at me, to punish me, they made it so I couldn’t work more than 40 hours in any given week. To take six hours of pay from me.

What that means is during my four-day week, I don’t go in until 12:30.

Wow.

Some punishment.

As if I cared that I don’t get those six hours.

Instead my job has blessed me! And I am so grateful! Wow! To not have to come in on Wednesday’s until 12:30.

And I’ve gotten at least a thousand, maybe two thousand words done on my novel today.

I think of a time where I would have been furious over loosing those six hours.

Now I see the silver lining and it makes me giddy.

Somehow I will bear the load of not having to go into work until after lunch. I’m brave! I can do it!

Namasté,
B.G. Thomas
